Train Maintenance: keeping the ICE on track

1st-tier-supply: components for the rail industry

Berlin Ostkreuz railway station: Reconstruction of the busiest transfer point in Berlin's local public transport network
Around 340,000 people pass through Berlin's Ostkreuz every day and around 123,000 passengers get on, off or change trains here every day. A great challenge for the traffic junction as such and for the companies involved in the reconstruction of the station.
Since July 2011, system supplier SPITZKE SE has been working together with Hentschke Bau GmbH as "ARGE Berlin-Ostkreuz VP 11" to carry out the reconstruction of the urban railway level at Berlin Ostkreuz station under a rolling wheel - i.e. during ongoing operation. The project covers the entire range of services of the railway infrastructure - from the railway track to equipment/electrical engineering, underground cable construction and civil engineering to new platform construction. Since the completion of the traffic junction in December 2018, a total of nine S-Bahn lines and eight regional lines in an east-west and north-south direction have crossed on two levels. In order to keep the suburban trains fit, maintenance work is carried out at regular intervals in the plants.
Heavy maintenance will be carried out at the Schöneweide plant. The tasks include carrying out overhauls, manufacturing and reconditioning around 800 different components, such as wheelsets, traction motors, bogies and electronic components. The repair of accident damage to vehicles as well as painting and anti-graffiti sealing are also carried out in Schöneweide.
